Huntington Park Pineda Exploits HP Youth

On the day of their recall, Councilman Jhonny Pineda posted the following blog on his website:

Huntington Park Council Member Pineda Helps Boost Youth Economic Future

February 16, 2016

First-term Council Member invites local high school students to apply.

HUNTINGTON PARK, CA – Today, Huntington Park City Council Member Jhonny Pineda announced a new program titled “Huntington Park Youth Employment and Civic Engagement Program,” approved by the council last week on a 4-0 vote.  The program is designed as a 7 week summer internship providing workforce development for local Huntington Park High School juniors, seniors and freshman college students.  Council Member Pineda encourages youth to apply

The city council "approved"" this program last week? The City Council did not meeting on Februay 11, but February 2nd: two weeks ago.

"Encouraging youth" is not doing something. That kind of rhetoric does not offer or accomplish anything for anyone.

Jhonny Pineda

The city council has five members, not four. This action was not taken by the city council, then.

“I am extremely proud of my fellow colleagues Mayor Macias, Vice Mayor Ortiz, Councilmember Sanabria and the community for supporting our youth by investing in the Huntington Park Youth Employment,” said Council Member Pineda. “Los Angeles County is one of the largest and most diverse regions in the nation. To better prepare a future global workforce for the City of Huntington Park, it will require an inclusive, ethnically diverse, civic minded and engaged community. We can be proud that our community is investing in our youth and future. I strongly encourage local high school junior, seniors and college freshman students to apply.”

No mention of Mayor Karina Macias. What else is going on?

The 2016 Huntington Park’s Hire HP Youth: Summer Workforce and Civic Engagement Program will provide support for local youth by building their work readiness skills and experience within the City of Huntington Park municipal departments; provide business mentorship with corporate leaders via a work place field trips to experience “a day in the life”; and  interns will end their summer experience by attending the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) UniCamp participating in a one week wilderness camping team building experience. Upon completion of the program, participants will receive a paid $1000 scholarship.

Program Partners Include:
City of Huntington Park
Hub Cities Consortium
University of California, Los Angeles UniCamp

Applications will become available March 1, 2016 and due by Thursday, March 31, 2016 at 5:00pm. For more information, contact the Huntington Park City Hall by phone at (323) 582-6161.

Where will the city get the money for these scholarships?

Who is paying for this?

What kind of leaders or role models do these city councilmembers think they are?

They act like little children pretending to be adults, pretending to have some idea how to run a city council. Instead of owning their actions, they run from the consequences of their failures.

They do not respect the residents of Huntington Park. They routinely break state and federal law. They do not honor this country, nor do they uphold the rule of law.

What kind of mentorship can any of them off the youth of Huntington Park? None.

Pineda does not care about young people. He cares only about himself.

In effect, Pineda once again is exploiting Huntington Park youth.

  1. Your arguments are very unsubstantiated, and do not in any way lead to the premise that he is "exploiting" youth. You probably don't need to worry about any of it either way, considering you live in Torrance, not HP. Such poorly-written, sensationalized journalism.
