He Seizes Us, Not Just Supports Us

"1Then the people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah, and made him king in his father's stead in Jerusalem." (2 Chronicles 36: 1)

In every verse of the Bible, we can see the Son of God and the Covenant of grace before us.

Even in the most difficult or trying circumstances described in the Bible, we can find the Good News, the New Covenant concealed, now revealed through the Spirit of God who lives and dwells in us.

We find a perfect example of this wonderful truth in the two names of the kings listed in the above verse.

Josiah means "Jah supports" or "Jah is a pillar". Many people have a static understanding of God's grace and love. Like Elijah, they know that God is, or that God is there. People are aware of who He is, that He controls everything.

Yet a God who is there, but does not interact, let alone act on our behalf, is not the fullest revelation of God with us.

Now we come to the next name: Jehoahaz, which "God has gripped me, or seized me."

Because of all that Jesus has done for us, we can trust that not only is God there, but that He is there for us, and that He is holding us fully and completely in His hands.

"And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day." (John 6: 39)

and also

"And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish , neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand." (John 10: 28)

Let Him hold you, let him guide, and let him keep you actively in all that He leads you to do.
