Thoughts on Current Events in New Jersey

The Democratic Party promoted Newark Mayor Cory Booker at their 2012 convention, yet he has decided against running for the governorship. Governor Chris Christie has one fewer challenge to worry about in his reelection bid. Booker should finish his job in Newark and let Christie finish his work in Trenton. By the way, how did things end after the Newark mayor decided to live off food stamps for a week? And while Booker considers replacing Senator Frank Lautenberg, someone should confront Senator Robert Menendez about his staff hiring an illegal deviant.

On another note, I am disheartened to hear Governor Christie is calling for tighter gun control laws in New Jersey and throughout the nation following the mass murder massacre in Newtown, Connecticut. The death of twenty first graders is a first-rate wickedness, both tragic and terrifying. However, the evil that lingers in the hearts of humanity will not be leaving us any time soon. Locking up the guns will not put away the danger of another shooting spree nor prevent an armed maniac from spraying a crowd with rapid-fire ammunition. No one should be jumping the gun on gun control until the public conscience and consensus have settled.

Since a threatened deterrence discourages criminals from invading homes and committing crimes, an armed citizenry in our schools and in our communities is better than waiting for the police and getting killed. Christie prosecuted public corruption as a US Attorney. He should let the public protect themselves with their own firearms.
