My name is Arthur Christopher Schaper, a resident of Torrance, CA. Please forgive my presumption in writing to the residents of Seminole, but I believe that Florida, like a number of swing states, is crucial to the outcome of this election, and this country needs and deserves better than four more years of Barack Obama and his Democratic caucus in Congress.
From Governor Rick Scott to US Senator Marco Rubio, to Romney's growing surge in the Sunshine State, a different type of storming is hitting the South East, a conservative backlash to four years of tax, spend, regulate, frustrate which defines the Obama Administration.
An epicenter of the Housing Crisis that brought down the global economy and brought in the Great Recession, Florida has 44% of its homes still underwater, and President Obama can claim no credit or recovery for helping struggling homeowners in the Sunshine State. Instead, a swift repeal of Dodd-Frank will permit small banks to loan once again, without fear of reprisal from the federal government or lawsuits from trial attorneys. The 848 page monstrosity available online is enough to make any banker blanch or any loaner lose his lunch.
President Obama's signature legislation, ObamaCare, is wreaking havoc with its unintended consequences across the country. While some consumers look favorably upon the law, it is no secret that Florida joined a number of states to block implemenation of "ObamaCare". The current law threatens states which refuse to engage in the planned Medicaid expansion by pulling the remainder of the state's federal monies, an unfair infringement of the federalist compact of states and the US Government. Rather than expand access, the law is driving a greater number of physicians out of the profession entirely, which will render any health insurance subsidies moot.
President Obama pressed on this country an unwanted health insurance mandate, which a majority of Americans have consistently wanted repealed. The law has already doubled health care costs for Florida college students, and they are already bearing a greater tuition burden because of government subsidies, a reality which Vice President Joe Biden relunctanly admitted. From the 2009 Stimulus that made no impact on Florida voters, to the Dodd-Frank law's lingering uncertainties which have stalled job creation and economic growth, to the anemic yet growing drag of ObamaCare on the economy, President Obama's fiscal and domestic policies have been a big bust. Romney deserves to serve as President.
In the wake of Romney's surge and now slight lead in Florida polls (50-48), the underdog Republican challenger for the Senate Seat, Congressman Connie Mack, who is now within striking distance of Democratic incumbent Bill Nelson. Senator Bill Nelson has advanced the Obama-Pelosi-Reid juggernaut of deficit spending, excessive regulations, and higher taxes. In addition to voting for the wasteful 2009 stimulus, ObamaCare , and Dodd-Frank, Senator Nelson also voted for the following:
Supplemental Appropriations for the "Cash for Clunkers" Program-- a waste subsidy which distorted the market and thwarted economic recovery.
Increasing the Debt Ceiling (Reid Bill) -- The state of Florida and the country need legislators who will stop the spending, refuse to authorize any more debt without significant spending cuts.
Sadly, Nelson voted against the Federal Reserve Audit and the Termination of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac Conservatorships, the two federally-back institutions which contributed to the housing crisis. He voted against Approving the Keystone XL Pipeline Project, a measure which will create jobs, encourage energy independence, and bring down the cost of gas. He also intervened in state financial crises, voting against Prohibiting Funding of State and Local Governments to Prevent Defaulting on Debt. Senator Nelson's policies on the debt and the domestic problems in this country have created more harm than good.
In contrast to Nelson, an inspection of Congressman Connie Mack's record will show that he has voted with the growing consensus in Congress to repeal ObamaCare, including Repeal of the Excise Tax on Medical Devices. He has also voted to Extend the Payroll Tax Cut and Disapproval of President's Authority to Raise the Debt Limit. Mack also defends traditional marriage. Obama's decision to endorse gay marriage has further diminished his chances in the Sunshine State, where the majority of residents still support traditional marriage. Mr. Nelson's ticket may likely hurt for being joined with the party that is trending in favor of a domestic issue still out of favor in the swing state.
Still, economic issues deserve the greatest attention in this election, and President Obama's failed record, with Senator Nelson's lock-stop support, provide reason enough to send Connie Mack to Washington with Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.On Novembher 6th, please vote for Connie Mack for US Senate and Mitt Romney for President.
