Congressman Ron Paul is becoming a casualty of a cause.
Is he running for President, or is he running a national lecture tour?
His consistent adherence to libertarianism is becoming as much of a liability to his candidacy as Governor Romney's inconsistency congruence to conservatism.
Doctor Paul finished a disappointing third in the Nevada caucuses, a state where he expected to score an upset victory.
Sadly, contrary to his bold assertion on the night he scored a respectable third place in the Iowa Caucuses, we are not yet all Austrians. Time will tell whether the United States will continue with Keynesian kookiness, but his slowly solidifying third place standing has diminished Paul's upsetting charm, or rather his charm to upset and place prominently in the GOP primary.
The United States needs character, seeks leadership, and longs for a candidate who can deliver both in a convincing and well as convicting message. Congressman Paul has failed to deliver on conviction, a seemingly inescapable liability of the libertarian imagination, an economic philosophy so rigidly attached to an ideation of freedom, that one can honestly challenge its practical application in the political realm.
Ron Paul represents the Cause and Character of a better, more Constitutional future. However, he has failed to capture the conviction of caucus goers and primary voters, at least enough to make him a respectable alternative to the his dichotomous, diametrically opposed opponent, and still anemic front runner Mitt Romney.
