Reflections on "My Utmost" November 22 Part II

"Determinedly take no one seriously but God, and the first person you find you have to leave severely alone as being the greatest fraud you have ever known, is yourself."

We do not have to take ourselves seriously anymore because we are made the righteousness of God (cf 2 Corinthians 5:21).

We do not have to look over our shoulders and try to be good. We are called to a life of grace-filled guidance through the inner workings of the Holy Spirit:

"This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh." (Galatians 5:16)

and

"If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit." (Galatians 5:25)

The condititional aspect of the second verse may trouble some readers. Another translation reads:

"Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit." (New International Version (©1984))

Or a reading which emphasizes the complete control, and thus our sweet abandon:

"Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit's leading in every part of our lives." (New Living Translation (©2007))

The Spirit of God of rules in Us, indicating to us the proper path for us to take:

"And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful." (Colossians 3:15)

Since God the Father through the Finished Work of His Son Jesus Christ has imparted to us His Holy Spirit, all we have to do is believe and be thankful!
